Analysis of Research Trends on Intervention Fidelity in Occupational Therapy

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the definition of intervention fidelity, theoretical background,and components, and examine the trends of intervention fidelity research in occupational therapy through aliterature review.
Methods: As a literature review study, this research was based on studies related to the intervention fidelity ofoccupational therapy among those studies published in foreign journals during the past 20 years from January2000 to December 2020. The target literature was analyzed in terms of the components of intervention fidelityand the tendency of intervention fidelity according to occupational therapy field.
Results: As a result of analyzing the studies, there were a total of five studies that included intervention design,training providers, and delivery of intervention, and three studies that included the reception of intervention.
Finally, none of the studies included the enactment of intervention skills. As a result of analyzing the tendency ofintervention fidelity according to the occupational therapy field, two studies on intervention fidelity of sensoryintegration intervention, one study on occupational performance coaching, one study on metacognitive rehabilitationintervention, and one study on daily therapy to improve depression and functional outcomes for older adults werefound.
Conclusion: As a result of examining the trend of intervention fidelity research in the field of occupational therapy,the development of an intervention fidelity evaluation centered on sensory integration interventions and researchapplying the same were mainly conducted, and research on intervention fidelity in various fields has sincecontinued. Recently, there have been studies by which many components of intervention fidelity have beenreflected, which is a result of high interest and importance of intervention fidelity in occupational therapy. Invarious fields of occupational therapy in Korea, studies on the development of intervention fidelity should increase,and studies on measurement evaluations of intervention fidelity are also expected.
